Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

  • Cooking Time:

    12-14 hours
  • Servings:

    10

Ingredients

4 lbs pork butt
2 large onions, sliced
1 can of ginger ale (NOT diet)
1 bottle of BBQ sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray's)

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork is definitely a make ahead recipe, but one you will make over and over again!  This freezes well and this recipe makes a TON so feel free to half if needed.  I always make this for large family gatherings! (so easy and you won’t be stuck in the kitchen all day!)

  1. Slice one of the onions and place in slow cooker.
  2. Place the pork roast over 1/2 of the sliced onions and cover with the other half.
  3. Pour the ginger ale all over.
  4. Cover & Crock on LOW for about 12 hours.
  5. Remove the meat.  Save the onions but set aside all the liquid.
  6. Shred the meat, picking out and discarding any fat, bones or skin.
  7. Transfer the shredded pork and the onions back to the slow cooker and stir in BBQ sauce. ( use 1.5 – 2 cups)
  8. Add any of the liquid to your taste to make the meat more moist.  – Just make to your preference!
  9. Crock on LOW for 2 more hours.Happy Crocking!

I live in Alabama and KNOW my BBQ. This recipe is fantastic an easy as can be. Warning, this recipe makes enough for a small army so do be prepared to freeze some for later unless you are feeding a small army. I used store brand sauce, am going to experiment with making my own in the future. It come out sweet and moist! I literally did the prep during a commercial, the deboning step takes a little longer, but not much. Goes great with corn, baked beans and other such fix’ins.

I hate cooking but this was sooooo easy! And turned out so good! Even my 3 & 4yr old asked for seconds! I had so much left I froze it for later this week. So excited to try out some more recipes! Thank you. 🙂

Im attempting this for the first time today, I already screwed up, I didnt read the cook time…12 hours….I only have 7-8 hours, so I turned up the heat, hopefully it works. Ill try it again, next time allocating the recommended allotted time. Smells so good in my home!

I am so looking forward to making the top ten. They sound delicious!

Would love it if you would suggest what sides would go well with your dishes this one will be easy, not so sure about some of the others.

Looking forward to making many of these for this years family reunion!

I usually use root beer, A&W or Mugs . Each one gives a different taste. How is using ginger ale vs root beer?

I make a recipe similar to this. But…. I don’t spend time cutting up an onion I just sprinkle a good helping of dried onion flakes. Add a little liquid smoke, maybe some worcheshire (sp), minced garlic, salt and pepper and I always use a dark cola, my preference is Dr. Pepper.
