Slow cooking, in season.

Tender pork, orchard apples, and savory herbs cook low and slow into the kind of dinner crisp fall evenings call for.

The Story

Jenn Bare and the six o'clock promise

It started with a hand-me-down crock pot and a week that would not slow down. Jenn was working long days, driving to practices, and staring into a fridge at 6 p.m. wondering how a family was supposed to eat together when nobody got home at the same time.

So she moved dinner to the morning. Ten minutes before the day began, everything went into the pot — and by evening the house smelled like somebody had been cooking all day, because somebody had. That was the trick, and it was too good to keep quiet about.

She started writing the recipes down and sharing them, one dish at a time. Then came the cookbooks, the magazine editions, the television segments — and a community of home cooks a million strong who all wanted the same thing she did: a real meal, on a real table, without a frantic hour to earn it.

"If dinner is already handled, everything else in the day gets easier."

What she believes

  • Ten minutes in the morning

Dinner should be decided before the day gets loud.

  • Ingredients you already own

The best recipe is the one you can start right now.

  • Everyone at one table

Slow cooking buys back the hour families actually need.

  • Nothing fussy, ever

If it needs a technique, it doesn't belong in the pot.
