Slow Cooker Foolproof Rice

  • Cooking Time:

    6–8 hours

Ingredients

1 c. rice, reg­u­lar raw, white
1 c. water
2 tsp. salt
1 T. but­ter

Slow Cook­er “Fool­proof” Rice is great to go with so many meals!

  1. Place all ingre­di­ents togeth­er in slow cook­er.
  2. Cov­er. Cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours.

NOTE: This Fool­proof Rice recipe real­ly does work, even with the small amount of water required. Cov­er­ing the slow cook­er and set­ting it on Low effec­tive­ly turns your slow cook­er into a rice steam­er. The rice will have the con­sis­ten­cy of steamed rice and will not be  “sticky rice”, that you would get from cook­ing it in a pot on the stove top. Time is impor­tant, as every slow cook­er crocks dif­fer­ent­ly, so you will need to watch this the first time you make it! Tricky but when you know how your crock will make your rice, it will be eas­i­er the next time.

Can the “fool­proof” rice be dou­bled, tripled, quadrou­pled? Also, would the rice to water ratio change as well as the dura­tion?

1 cup of rice will make 10 serv­ings? Am I read­ing this wrong? Just check­ing.

Use your slow cook­er for rice. 1 cup of uncooked rice yields 3 — 4 cups cooked rice. It takes 20 min­utes +/- for reg­u­lar white rice. Brown takes dou­ble the amount of time.

I like to make a pot of rice, pour 1 cup por­tions into sand­wich size Ziploc bags & freeze. It reheats nice­ly & is ready to thaw & go into a soup, casse­role or make fried rice.

I like the slow cook­er method more than using my rice cook­er. Just don’t take the lid off fre­quent­ly as the rice needs the steam to cook. prop­er­ly.
